About Handmade by Miss Jenny
Jenny Bersentes, formerly Jennifer Minke, grew up an only child in New Orleans and moved to Santa Barbara, California to attend college where she majored in Advertising Photography and Video Production. She spent the next 10 years shooting and editing high-end wedding videos throughout the central coast of California. In 2000 Jenny married John Bersentes then gave birth to Sophia  then Theodore 3 years later. Along with Noreen, Jenny's Mom, the family relocated to Southern Virginia in 2003. Finally settling in South Riding 6 years ago.
Jenny learned the art of Millinery while in college, by her best friend, a fashion designer named Billy Mendibles. Although they were separated by careers and family, they remained close. Billy was Jenny's "Dude of Honor at her wedding. And ofcourse made her dress. In 2010 Billy lost his battle with cancer. Devastated by the loss of her best friend Jenny began making hats in the same styles Billy and she made together costuming for photo shoots so many years earlier. She felt great comfort in making the hats and soon she found herself in a house full of them.  She sold her first hat in September 2010 from an antique mall in Bedford, Pennsylvania, near where her father lives. That hat went to the Kentucky Derby. Since then she has expanded to sell in 5 additional boutiques in Northern Virginia and has developed a wonderful following. "I'm doing something no one else is doing and the women of Northern Virginia love it! As soon as they look in a mirror, they smile. That brings me so much joy,Thank you Billy."
